Anjali has been in the news recently for her personal issues rather than her on-screen work. It is said a day after a division bench of the Madras High Court dismissed the 'habeas corpus' petition filed against her by estranged aunt Bharathi Devi, there was new trouble for her.
This is because Bharathi Devi has moved a family court in the city, seeking monthly maintenance of Rs.50,000 from the actress.
In her plea, Bharathi Devi has claimed that since adopting Anjali in 2000, she had incurred an expense of Rs.70 lakh on helping her become an actress, in the hope that she (Anjali) would take care of her when she grew old.
She filed the petition since Anjali had reportedly moved out and wanted to be paid monthly maintenance in lieu of her services.
The court is scheduled to hear the petition on 14 August. Apart from this case, there is a defamation suit filed by director Kalanjiyam, which is pending her.
